WorldRemit adds instant money transfers to Haiti
The ‘WhatsApp of Money’ now offers convenient cash pickup service in Haiti
Global digital money transfer service WorldRemit has expanded its offerings to include a cash pickup service in Haiti.
Through WorldRemit’s cash pickup service, people from overseas can now send money direct to Haiti – where recipients can collect their funds as cash from over 250 Unitransfer branches.
Over $2.2 billion was sent to Haiti in 2015, according to the World Bank, making up 22.7% of GDP1. Around 830,000 people of Haitian descent live in the United States alone2.
Alix Murphy, senior mobile analyst at WorldRemit, comments: “With over 2.2 million Haitians living outside the country, remittances have a huge impact on the local economy.
“However, up until now, Haitians living abroad have had to endure long waiting times and high fees at money transfer agents. Now with the WorldRemit app, Haitians abroad have a convenient and secure way to send money home.”
